On this trip, we will head to Seminyak for a 6D5N surfing boot camp. Expect to hone your surf skills through daily surf guiding sessions. Immerse yourself in the local surfing scene and meet like-minded travellers. Whether you’re a beginner looking to catch your first wave or an experienced surfer seeking to improve your skills, this surf camp in Seminyak is an excellent way to take your surfing to the next level while enjoying Bali’s beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife.
What will the trip look like?
Day 1 – Welcome to Seminyak
We will check in at our surf camp, Kimasurf Seminyak, at 3pm. It’s a free-and-easy day, where you can spend the rest of the day exploring Seminyak. We will reserve a place for a group dinner so that you can get to know each other better before the surfing starts!
Day 2, 3, 4, 5 – Take your surf skills to the next level
This is where the real fun begins. Every day there will be two surf guiding sessions by Kimasurf where we will split up into smaller groups based on our skill levels. Once you are comfortable riding the smaller waves (broken whitewashes), it’s time to practice your paddling and turtle roll skills as you head out to the surf lineup for a shot at conquering the big boys.
The general progression for surfers is as follows (depending on your speed of learning):
1) Big foam surfboard in the beginner area
2) Big hard-top surfboard in the beginner area
3) Big hard-top surfboard in the intermediate area
4) Smaller hard-top surfboard in the intermediate area
We also encourage our participants to self-organise other activities such as beach volleyball or bar hopping on these days!
Day 6 – Farewell
And on our last day, we’ll check out of the hostel with our newfound surfing skills and a lifetime of unforgettable memories!

What can I expect to learn?
If you are a beginner, by the end of this surf camp you should be familiar with:
1) Wave theory – identifying the right waves to catch
2) Paddle out theory – what to do when you encounter a big wave while paddling out
3) Catching your first green wave – Once you catch your first green wave you have made it further than 95% of beginner surfers!
Pre-trip tips
1) The lessons listed on the Kimasurf Booking link are adjustable. So if they run out of beginner lessons, you can let the front desk know and they will add more spots to the system.
2) Board insurance is not included. It is 10 euros per day which is rather expensive. Also, your personal travel insurance might already cover equipment rental damage.
3) Here are some surfing videos you should watch: a) Which wave to catch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6iz_hMM3q4 b) How to paddle out against waves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfPpfWnDjMc c) How to identify rip currents https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SUo1G6q37M
Do I need to have prior surfing experience?
Nope! For the complete newbies, you can add on a 3-day learn-to-surf crash course which would cover the basics of surf practice and theory.
Do I need to know how to swim
Yes! Although the beginner waves are usually near the shore, the goal of this camp is to improve and eventually hit the green waves. This requires you to battle the waves and paddle out into the open sea, hence you should be able to swim if you want to attend this surf camp.
