Southern Hemisphere Powder: Perisher Australia’s Largest Ski Resort

Why Perisher?

Perisher, located in the picturesque Kosciuszko National Park in New South Wales, is renowned as the largest ski resort in Australia. It encompasses an expansive area spread over four interconnected mountain terrains — Perisher Valley, Blue Cow, Smiggin Holes, and Guthega. Together, they offer a staggering 1245 hectares of skiable terrain. This means that skiers and snowboarders have access to an exceptional range of slopes and trails suitable for all levels.

Perisher boasts more than 100 groomed trails and a multitude of off-piste options. It also has the country's largest snowmaking system, ensuring great skiing conditions even when Mother Nature doesn't deliver.

That and the fact that you get to enjoy top-class skiing in August and September makes it a no-brainer for fellow ski and snowboard enthusiasts.

Where will we be staying?

We know Australia is not the cheapest place for a ski trip, so we wanted to find an affordable option that doesn’t compromise your experience. We will be staying in Snowy Gums, located in Perisher. While it is no fancy 5-star resort, this accommodation is only a 3-minute walk away from the ski lifts!

Can I join as a beginner?

You are more than welcome to join as a beginner. Affordable group beginner lessons can be arranged with the local vendors at your own cost. (~$25 per 2 hours session)

What is the difference between this trip and the #GreatSingaporeSkiTrip?

We hold the #GreatSingaporeSkiTrip twice every season, and there are a few differences from this trip:

  • Location: The #GreatSingaporeSkiTrip will be held in the French Alps
  • Group size: The Perisher trip will have a maximum of 12 people per trip, while the group size for the #GreatSingaporeSkiTrip is much larger
  • Concept: This trip is a community trip, the main purpose is to gather like-minded skiers and boarders together. The #GreatSingaporeSkiTrip is more event-based and there will be a Singaporean host there to organise the chaos.
  • Frequency: The Perisher trip will have a few sessions across August to Sep, while the #GreatSingaporeSkiTrip is held only twice per season (usually Dec / April). Think of it as Sotravel’s bi-annual winter event!

So should I go for the #GreatSingaporeSkiTrip or this trip?

If your schedule and wallet permit, we think you should come for both!

For those who are picking between the two, it’s ultimately up to what you’re looking for so here are some considerations:

  • Lessons: If you’re a beginner or looking to improve your skills through guided lessons, we would recommend the #GreatSingaporeSkiTrip. The resort we’re working with in the French alps has really great prices for their instructor lessons. As such, the #GreatSingaporeSkiTrip includes daily lessons in the trip price. We find these lessons incredibly helpful for beginners and even those with prior experience improve much faster
  • Travel plans: Both Perisher and France are travel destinations the Sotravel team absolutely adores. From Perisher, you can travel to the rest of Australia. Likewise, from the French alps, you can head over to Italy, Switzerland and other countries in Europe. If you already have plans to visit either destination, you can do a pre or post-trip after hitting the slopes!

Regardless, both trips are going to be a blast and you can’t go wrong with either choice.
