What to wear and when

• Surfing Shorts or Bikini
  Perfect for warm water surfing (think tropical destinations or hot summer days). They offer maximum freedom of movement and comfort.
  
  When to wear:
  Water temperatures above 24°C. Think of this as your go-to when you’d rather be swimming than worrying about staying warm.
• Rash Guard
  Thin, stretchy shirts (long or short sleeve) that protect your skin from the sun, wax rash, and chafing.
  
  When to wear:
  Warm water: Sun protection and rash prevention.
  Cooler water: An added layer of warmth under a wetsuit.
• Wetsuit
  Neoprene suits that trap a thin layer of water against your skin, which your body heats up to keep you warm. Choose a wetsuit appropriate for the water temperature you’ll be surfing in. Thickness varies depending on the climate and season.
  
  When to wear:
  – Water temperatures between 21°C and 24°C: A 1mm wetsuit can be a good option, especially if you tend to get cold easily.
  – Water temperatures below 21°C: A 2mm shorty or springsuit might be enough.
  – Water temperatures below 16°C: A 3/2mm fullsuit is recommended.
• Booties
  For cold water or rocky beaches to protect your feet.
  
  When to wear:
  Surfing over reef or rocky bottoms. Some surfers wear them year-round for extra protection and warmth.
• Sunscreen (with zinc)
  Zinc oxide is considered one of the safest and most effective sunscreen ingredients, and ideal for surfing.
  
  When to wear:
  Always! Even on cloudy days or when wearing a rash guard or wetsuit.
• Surf hat
  Wide-brimmed hats with chin straps to keep them from flying off in the waves. They provide sun protection for your face, neck, and ears.
  
  When to wear:
  Whenever you’re surfing in sunny conditions, especially in tropical areas with intense sunlight.
